Shamus is a Vice President with CohnReznick Capital and is based in the New York office. He primarily focuses on corporate and project capital raises within the sustainable energy sector, corporate and asset M&A, and selectively on business development.
Before joining CohnReznick Capital, Shamus was a Vice President within Citigroup’s North American Power and Utilities Corporate and Investment Banking Division where he executed and advised on corporate solutions, M&A, leveraged finance, private placements, liability management, regulatory constructs, and commodity-linked transactions for sponsors / corporates, with a specific focus on merchant assets and IPPs. His primary responsibilities at Citi included sponsor account coverage, leveraged finance approvals and execution, M&A, the evaluation of U.S.-based power markets / merchant fundamentals, and the monitoring of existing leveraged clients. Prior to Citi, Shamus was an Associate at Huntsman Gay Global Capital, a middle market buyout firm, where he evaluated leveraged buyout transactions and investment opportunities across various industries, concentrated within Aerospace and Defense, Consumer, Energy, and Business Services.
Earlier on, Shamus served as an Associate for AlpInvest’s U.S.-based Funds Team where he executed in excess of 40 primary investments, equating to over $1BN in committed capital across various private equity classes including mega buyout, middle-market, venture capital, distressed, clean technology, growth equity, and mezzanine funds in the U.S., EU, Latin America, and Asia. While at AlpInvest, Shamus was designated to spearhead a Global Clean Technology Investment Initiative, aimed at investing EUR500 across U.S.-based cleantech GPs (both early stage and late stage). Prior to AlpInvest, Shamus was an Investment Banking Analyst within Credit Suisse’s Global Energy Group where he focused on M&A and leveraged finance transactions, principally for MLPs and IPPs.
Shamus earned his MBA from the Thunderbird School of Global Management, cum laude, and a Bachelor of Science in Finance and Entrepreneurship from the University of Arizona Honors College, magna cum laude.
